Producers reveal in a scathing post that Deepika Padukone will not be starring in the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, saying, "This film deserves commitment."

In Kalki 2898 AD, Deepika Padukone portrays a pregnant woman.

For fans of Deepika Padukone, production company Vyjayanthi Movies has made a heartbreaking announcement. The sequel to Kalki 2898 AD will not feature her.

Deepika Padukone was taken out of the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.

"This is to formally announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD," they wrote on Twitter. We have made the decision to part ways after giving it some thought.

Additionally, the tweet seemed a bit too critical, as though it accused Deepika of not committing fully to the position. "We failed to establish a collaboration despite the protracted process of producing the first movie. And a movie like @Kalki2898AD is worthy of that dedication and more. We hope she does well in her future endeavours.

Deepika co-starred in Kalki 2898 AD with Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani. Deepika played a crucial part in the film and was anticipated to play the lead in the follow-up.

Responses from online

Fans responded to the post in a bewildering manner. One person wrote, "Nag Ashwin should be prepared to face the music from Deepika fans." Someone else speculated, "I don't think it's the effect of Prabhas/Spirit; it might be something else."

Citing similar problems, Deepika also left co-star Prabhas' Spirit a few months ago. Prior to this, Deepika was in negotiations to play the lead in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's next action movie. But following her alleged departure from the project, rumours circulated that she had asked for an 8-hour workday, a cut of the movie's earnings, and the avoidance of speaking Telugu during her dialogue—conditions that the director reportedly did not approve of. Triptii Dimri eventually took her place.

In addition, fans are proposing other actors for Deepika's part. Keerthy Suresh was cast as Sumathi @nagashwin7. We have the best talent and are ideal for the position! 🤍 Another suggested "Lokah movie's @kalyanipriyan." Someone commented, "I'm glad she's not in this franchise. She acted in scenes that literally lacked emotion. Even Mrunal Thakur's facial expressions improved during her brief appearance on screen.

Khushi Kapoor claims that because she was exposed to social media at an early age, she no longer "overthinks" it: "I'm no longer sensitive to a lot of it."

Khushi Kapoor, the daughter of Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, is scheduled to debut in Bollywood in the upcoming Zoya Akhtar film The Archies. Khushi, who is currently occupied with movie promotion, has disclosed that she was exposed to the negative aspects of social media at a very young age. Khushi disclosed that, in contrast to before, she no longer takes anything personally and has learned to stop overanalyzing.

"Unfortunately, I think I was exposed to a lot of it (Social media) from a very young age, so I've been kind of desensitised to a lot of it," Khushi stated in an interview with NDTV. When you read something, you develop the ability to tell whether it is the result of someone else's insecurity or not. I've since learned not to take things so personally. I don't really think things through and analyse them as much as I used to. My ability to distinguish it now has been aided by my early exposure to it. Since I know their opinions are coming from a better place, I value them more than those of others who mean more to me.

In the next movie, Khushi is portrayed as Betty Cooper. "What did Betty teach you about yourself?" was the question posed. "I think to be kinder to myself," the actor stated. She's a really tender and perceptive girl, and I believe she also taught me how to treat myself better. I have a tendency to put a lot of weight and strain on myself in everything. She kind of taught me to be kinder to myself and to put less pressure on myself throughout the shoot.

Suhana Khan acknowledges she's not very good at handling criticism on social media, and Zoya Akhtar refers to her as a "vulnerable princess."

Suhana Khan, the daughter of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, will be making her screen debut on December 7 in Zoya Akhtar's teen musical comedy The Archies. Suhana recently acknowledged in an interview that, despite her mother being an avid fan, she had never read Archie Comics when she was first offered the role. The love triangle was, of course, the only thing I knew about it. Finding out about all the other characters was incredibly cool after reading the script and the comics, she said in an NDTV interview.

Suhana plays the keyboardist and one of the three vocalists for the rock band The Archies, Veronica Lodge, a major character in the comics written by Ayesha Devitre Dhillon, Reema Kagti, and Zoya Akhtar. Suhana said, "Zoya was what drew me in," in response to a question concerning what drew her to the role. It's an opportunity that you simply cannot pass up, particularly for your first movie. I considered myself to be a girl who aspired to be like Veronica.

"She is a very vulnerable princess," Zoya said in response to a question about why she cast Suhana as Veronica. Veronica goes by Ronnie, and I intended her to be extremely vulnerable. She is a princess; she doesn't have to try.

When asked what she would like to see change in the world, Suhana said, "I truly envied her self-confidence and the way she loved herself," expressing her admiration for Veronica's self-assurance. There have been moments when I've felt unconfident, and all I want is to give young girls confidence. In a world where there is so much scrutiny on social media and you feel so low about your looks and whatever else it may be, I hope that one day I can accomplish that and help them feel more in love with themselves. I genuinely feel strongly about that, so hopefully I can accomplish it.

Suhana said, "To be honest, I don't handle it very well, but I'm trying," in response to a question about how she manages social media and the attention it brings. Strangely, having to deal with hurtful remarks has increased my appreciation for kindness. Meeting real people and witnessing their warmth towards you, especially girls, is heartwarming. Since one is reality and the other is not, that really helps me to distinguish between the two.

When asked where Suhana saw herself in five years, she said, "I'm not sure. In five years, hopefully, I'll be working on a project I love and contributing to global change.

Jawan's political message

Jawan has been characterised as a popular Bollywood film with a strong political message—something that is incredibly uncommon in conventional Hindi films. Many people think that the movie carries a "anti-establishment" message, although the protagonist of the film urges viewers to vote responsibly.

At the India Today Conclave in Mumbai in 2023, director Atlee observed, "You may take it as you want. The voice of the audience is typical. It is the expression of Indian feeling. I'm not being specific, but I'm talking about actual problems. One should read the instructions, understand how to vote, and know who to vote for.

Navya Naveli Nanda, the granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, made her debut at this year’s Paris Fashion Week. Her proud mother, Shweta Bachchan, shared an array of photographs and videos from the event, showcasing Navya’s stunning appearance on the runway in a mini red dress. Navya’s aunt Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also walked the same ramp.

Shweta posted pictures of herself with her mother, Jaya Bachchan, as they sat in the front rows, cheering enthusiastically for Navya as she confidently walked the ramp. Navya walked the runway for cosmetic brand L’Oréal Paris at this prestigious fashion event. Shweta shared a video capturing her daughter’s runway walk, captioning it, “Little miss L’Oréal.”

In another post, Shweta shared a delightful collection of photos from their time in Paris. She revealed that while Navya was busy with her preparations for the show, she and her mother took leisurely walks around Paris. Shweta wrote, “All roads led to Paris this weekend. Well, at least for my mother & me. As Navya spent all her days doing L’Oréal things. My mother and I walked and ate (more eating than roaming to be honest) The show was an experience and so emotional – my mother and I both admitted to holding back tears as our little girl walked on all smiles !!! I remember her first steps she was just a few days past her 1st birthday – like yesterday, all parents say this I’m sure, it’s cheesy, and annoying, but so true. She wore red, the Eiffel Tower turned pink, and we went home very proud, very emotional, and very hungry. I snuck in some M&M’s in my bag, though it’s blasphemous to eat chocolate at a fashion show, we did – because we’re worth it.”

Notably, Navya’s aunt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, was also present at the Paris Fashion Week. Aishwarya dazzled on the runway as the Indian brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, wearing a gold shimmering cape gown and showcasing her newly debuted blonde highlights.

An Amitabh Bachchan advert has landed Flipkart in big trouble with mobile phone retailers

 Synopsis

Smartphone retailers have accused Flipkart of misleading buyers with an advertisement featuring Amitabh Bachchan, claiming that online platforms offer better deals. In the advertisement, Bachchan says that the mobile deals offered by Flipkart will not be available at retail stores. The All India Mobile Retailers Association has written to leading smartphone brands, asking them to clarify that these statements are not accurate.

Smartphone retailers have called out an advertisement by Flipkart featuring Amitabh Bachchan which they allege misleads buyers into believing online platforms offer better deals this festive season. In a Hindi advertisement by the online retailer, aired to promote its upcoming festive sales, the film star could be heard saying that the kind of mobile deals Flipkart is offering will not be available at retail stores.

Reacting to the advertisement, the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), which represents 150,000 mobile retailers, has written to leading smartphone brands to highlight the issue and also ask the brand heads to “issue either a joint or individual statement in prominent news media outlets, publicly clarifying that these statements are not accurate.”

“Our purpose in addressing you is to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent wave of derogatory advertisements that have been proliferating across various online platforms, social media, and print media. These advertisements have been influencing the buying behaviour of customers through false and misleading statements, such as the one promoted by Flipkart with the endorsement of the mega star, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, stating, ‘yeh Dukan per nahin milne wala’ (This will not be found in stores),” AIMRA said in its letter to smartphone brands. ET has reviewed copies of the letter.

Flipkart, meanwhile, has made the ad private on YouTube. Emails to the company did not elicit a response till press time.

Shekhar Kapur on Dev Anand: He taught me about hope, adventure, the perils of stardom

Anupam-Kher
Anupam Kher, Dev Anand and Zarina Wahab in Hum Naujawan

I left my position as a chartered accountant in the beginning of the 1970s. Early in my 20s, I had no idea what I wanted to accomplish with my life.
Mother expressed great concern that I was turning into "a hippy." In order to get me a job in one of his films, she asked Dev Uncle (Kapur's mother Sheel Kapur was Dev Anand's sister).

I had intended to travel through Africa on foot at the time. But, as production on Ishk Ishk Ishk (1974) started going, I really got into it. A young man who is looking for his identity and purpose in the world falls in love in this romantic comedy set in the mountains.

Much of the film was captured by us.

The majority of the movie was filmed in Nepal's small towns and cities. We continued ascending higher into the mountains. The film's cinematographer, Fali Mistry, is quoted as saying:

Dev Saab's voice may be heard now. (Someone stop Dev Saab.) Woh kahan jaa rahein hai. What is his destination)?

No one enjoyed the fact that we had to walk days to get to some places. At the time, Dev Uncle was already in his fifties, but nothing could stop him.

I can vividly recall his thirst for exploration. I then realised how similar we really were. But while I was still seeking, he had already discovered what he was looking for.

In Bombay, Ishk Ishk Ishk had its debut. Everyone in the room applauded him and gave the movie high marks. After we were at his hotel room at The Oberoi, this continued via phone calls.

Then the genuine complaints started flooding in, with distributors complaining that no one was purchasing tickets and that the venues were empty. When he discovered that his major release had failed on its first day, I was the only one with him.

He appeared to be in complete despair. His personal money had also been heavily invested in it. "Shekhar, image flop ho gayi," he remarked to me. Paisa gaya (The film was a failure. The money is gone),' he said before entering the lavatory. After spending some time there, he eventually left smiling once more.

He began talking about his concept for a new movie after stating that he had one. This is maybe the most significant memory I have of him, and it is a lesson I am still working to internalise.

Spending time with him, however, also taught me the value of not being deceived by one's own public image. Do that, and you'll take on that persona. And it gets harder and harder to tell the two apart. Most of the time, I was unable to distinguish between talking to my uncle Dev Anand or Dev Anand the celebrity since the two identities had melded. Also, that aura turns into a barrier that must be overcome in order to reach the inside individual; to create a human.

I preferred his films most when he wasn't "playing himself"; examples are Munimji (1955), Funtoosh (1956), and Hum Dono (1961).

His best performance was in the Hindi adaptation of Guide (1965), which starred Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman and was directed by his brother Vijay Anand. I was inspired by how he changed from Raju to Swamiji. It was recent. Instead of the star following the plot, it followed the narrative.

Despite this, he had a keen understanding of his field and the wider world and was constantly seeking connections between the two. His films consistently represented the current events.

He desired to travel abroad. He was the one who approached Pearl S. Buck, a Nobel Prize-winning novelist, about adapting R.K. Narayan's book into an English film.

I met Gregory Peck, the actor he was frequently likened to, in his Bandra house. I recall hearing a talk between him and David Lean, the Academy Award–winning director of Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia, on another occasion. They discussed films and the potential globalisation of Indian cinema.

My earliest memories of Dev Uncle date back to when he would visit us as a little child in Delhi (Shekhar Kapur's father Kulbhushan Kapur was a physician there).

One day, as we were going through Connaught Place, he abruptly yelled for the driver to stop. We were in front of the Gaylord Dining Room. Uncle exited the vehicle and began singing with a man who was seated on the stairs outside. I discovered that the man was Raj Kapoor much later.

Another memory I have is of him taking me to my first movie set when I was maybe seven or so. Even as a little child, I was astounded by Madhubala's great vitality and beauty when I first saw her there. The three of us were captured on camera that day. It's probably gone now.

Dev Uncle and I last spoke in his Mumbai editing studio. I hadn't seen him in a while, and when I went to give him a hug, he recoiled. I was shocked and upset for a little moment. Suddenly I noticed how elderly and frail he had become.

He never voiced any complaints or talked about his symptoms since he still wanted to retain the appearance of endless youth. I recall that his supporters were genuinely shocked when he passed away. How could you lose someone you thought was "evergreen"?

He was timeless in a certain sense. He never stopped creating films, no matter how bad they were. He never lost his enthusiasm for film, which inspired him to create.

He was creating a script, according to his son Suneil Anand, who was with him when he died away in London. Always using a register, he wrote. Dev Uncle had already passed away with the register still in his grasp when Suneil returned from leaving the room.

The filmmaker of films including Mr. India, Bandit Queen, Elizabeth, and most recently, What's Love Got to Do with It, Shekhar Kapur, is a BAFTA and National Award winner.
