An Amitabh Bachchan advert has landed Flipkart in big trouble with mobile phone retailers

 Synopsis

Smartphone retailers have accused Flipkart of misleading buyers with an advertisement featuring Amitabh Bachchan, claiming that online platforms offer better deals. In the advertisement, Bachchan says that the mobile deals offered by Flipkart will not be available at retail stores. The All India Mobile Retailers Association has written to leading smartphone brands, asking them to clarify that these statements are not accurate.

Smartphone retailers have called out an advertisement by Flipkart featuring Amitabh Bachchan which they allege misleads buyers into believing online platforms offer better deals this festive season. In a Hindi advertisement by the online retailer, aired to promote its upcoming festive sales, the film star could be heard saying that the kind of mobile deals Flipkart is offering will not be available at retail stores.

Reacting to the advertisement, the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), which represents 150,000 mobile retailers, has written to leading smartphone brands to highlight the issue and also ask the brand heads to “issue either a joint or individual statement in prominent news media outlets, publicly clarifying that these statements are not accurate.”

“Our purpose in addressing you is to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent wave of derogatory advertisements that have been proliferating across various online platforms, social media, and print media. These advertisements have been influencing the buying behaviour of customers through false and misleading statements, such as the one promoted by Flipkart with the endorsement of the mega star, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, stating, ‘yeh Dukan per nahin milne wala’ (This will not be found in stores),” AIMRA said in its letter to smartphone brands. ET has reviewed copies of the letter.

Flipkart, meanwhile, has made the ad private on YouTube. Emails to the company did not elicit a response till press time.

Apple Identifies Problems Causing iPhone 15 Getting too hot

Apple has said that the device may feel warmer in the first few days "after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity."

The upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will not reduce performance to address the iPhone's temperature

Washington: Apple announced on Saturday that it has uncovered a few vulnerabilities that may cause new iPhones to run hotter than planned, including a fault in the iOS 17 software that will be resolved in a future update.

After reports that the new phones are overheating, Apple has stated that the device may feel warmer in the first few days "after setting up or restoring the device due to increased background activity."

"Another issue includes certain recent modifications to third-party apps that are causing them to overwhelm the system," Apple explained, adding that the company is working with app developers on remedies that are being handed out.

According to the business, the third-party applications triggering the issue include the game Asphalt 9, Meta's Instagram, and Uber. Instagram addressed the problem with its app on September 27.

The impending iOS 17 bug update will not impact performance to address the iPhone's temperature.

The Cupertino, California-based business stated that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not overheat owing to the design, rather the new titanium shells result in superior heat dissipation compared to previous stainless steel versions.

Apple also stated that the issue poses no safety or harm risk and would have no long-term impact on the phone's performance.

Apple blames vulnerabilities in iOS 17 and apps like Instagram for causing iPhone 15s overheat.

According to Forbes, the iOS 17.1 update will fix bugs that are causing iPhone 15 overheating, as well as upgrades that are already being rolled out to third-party apps.

According to Forbes, Apple has recognised consumer concerns over overheating iPhone 15 and 15 Pro phones, but has stated that, contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with the phone's mechanical design. According to Forbes, an update to Instagram, version 302, was launched on September 27th, to solve some of the difficulties. Apple also claims that the thermal concerns pose no safety risk, but that other circumstances, such as USB-C power adapters with more-than-20W charging and background processing that happens quickly after a phone is recovered, might cause a phone to become warmer than an iPhone user is accustomed to.

The firm also informed Forbes that the update, which should be included in iOS 17.1, would not result in throttled performance, as some have speculated, including Apple supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo.

Apple made several significant modifications with the iPhone 15 phones, including the new A17 Pro CPU manufactured on TSMC's 3nm process and the usage of titanium in the frame's construction. The CPU and its powerful six-core GPU are expected to be one of the main selling points of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max because it allows the game to run graphics-intensive games like Resident Evil Village, which is due out later this year, at near-console quality.

According to Bloomberg, an unidentified Apple official particularly mentions Instagram, Uber, and the game Asphalt 9 as applications that may cause the devices to "run warmer than normal."
