After no low-blow claim, the WBA rejected Daniel Dubois' request to have Oleksandr Usyk's defeat reversed.

The WBA denied Daniel Dubois' request to have his loss to Oleksandr Usyk altered to a no-contest because of a disputed low-blow call.

Usyk successfully defended his WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles in August, but the fight's outcome was overshadowed by the moment when he was wobbly and dropped to the ground.

Usyk was given nearly four minutes to recover before dominating the rest of the bout. Referee Luis Pabon promptly determined that Dubois' vicious right hook in the fifth round was below the waist.

Pabon's decision enraged Dubois and his crew, prompting promoter Frank Warren to file an official appeal last month, urging the WBA to overturn the verdict and order an instant rematch.

However, an independent panel supported Pabon's decision, while the WBA, in announcing its decision to uphold the original result, disclosed that the referee has the last say in these circumstances.

"With the supervisor's approval, the WBA decided to refer the case to the International Officials Committee, who issued their review on September 11 and found that there was no clear and conclusive evidence that Pabon's original decision on Dubois' punch to Usyk was incorrect."

"They also came to the conclusion that no TV clip provided evidence that the decision was incorrect." Furthermore, they claimed that "the original decision of the low blow must stand because there is no indispensable evidence to prove otherwise."

"On the other hand, the WBA rules determine that the decision of a low blow and whether a boxer who receives it can continue are strict competences of the referee and he is the only one authorised to make these decisions."

Usyk, who knocked Dubois down twice to extend his unblemished professional record to 21 wins from 21 fights, is poised to face WBC champion Tyson Fury next.

A contract for a fight involving all four main world titles was reached last month, though the date of the match, which will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has yet to be revealed.

Delhi AQI: Air quality is currently "bad" with a reading of 266; More information here

Delhi AQI: The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research rated the air quality in the capital as "bad" on Saturday morning, with an AQI of 266. (SAFAR-India).

At 7:01 a.m., Lodhi Road's AQI reported at 211, which is considered to be a "bad" level, while the Pusa Road area's AQI was 193, which is considered to be a "moderate" level.

Similar to this, Gurugram's AQI was 162, which is considered to be "moderate." However, the AQI rose to 286 at the Delhi Airport (T3).

Around Delhi University, the air quality was recorded at 331, which is considered to be "extremely poor." The AQI in Noida (UP) was 283, which likewise put it in the "bad" quality zone.

An AQI of 201 at Ayanagar indicated "bad" air quality, while an AQI of 179 in Mathura Road indicated "moderate" air quality. The AQI for the vicinity of IIT Delhi was 215. Dhirpur recorded an AQI of 329, which is considered to be "extremely poor" for air quality.

The AQI is a tool made to make it easier to explain the public's air quality needs by utilising simple categories. Good, Satisfactory, Moderately Polluted, Poor, Extremely Poor, and Severe are the six AQI classifications. Based on the environmental air pollution concentration levels and their possible health effects, or "health breakpoints," these groups are categorised.

The AQI scale classifies air quality as "excellent" between 0 and 50, "acceptable" between 51 and 100, "moderate" between 101 and 200, "poor" between 201 and 300, "extremely poor" between 301 and 400, and "severe" between 401 and 450. When the AQI exceeds 450, the word "severe" is used.

On October 9, AAP Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated at a press conference, "Delhi's air quality continued to improve by 8% in 2022. Its improvement has increased by 31% as of 2023. The year 2023 will have the finest air quality in Delhi over the past eight years, excluding the COVID period."

Authorities in the National Capital Region were earlier urged to enact a ban on coal usage in hotels and restaurants by the National Air Quality Committee. As Delhi's air quality deteriorated to "bad," they were also instructed to impose sanctions on businesses and thermal power plants that contribute to pollution.

This action was taken as a part of the government's pollution management policy, known as the "Graded Response Action Plan" (GRAP), which was implemented in the Delhi-NCR region to combat air pollution issues during the winter.

Two airports in Syria were struck by Israel, according to reports, activating air defence.

Syrian state media reported that Israeli strikes on Thursday targeted Syria's two main airports. This was the first such attack since a Hamas attack on Israel at the weekend sparked violent fighting.

Without going into further detail, the state media stated on the messaging service Telegram that "Israeli aggression strikes the airports in Damascus and Aleppo."

According to sources, Israel's airstrikes struck Syrian airport runways in the already-devastated cities caused by the war, triggering the nation's air defence systems.

The reports further stated that all flights into and out of Syria have been cancelled.

Flights at the airports in Aleppo and the capital Damascus, both of which are under the control of the government of war-torn Syria, have frequently been grounded as a result of Israeli strikes.

The most recent attacks occurred as Hamas and Israel continued their six-day-long heavy-fire exchange after hundreds of Hamas armed men entered Israel from Gaza on Saturday, killing more than 1,000 civilians.

These also occurred during US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Israel and only hours after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called on Arab and Islamic nations to band together to combat Israel over the phone with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad.

Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes on its northern neighbour over the more than ten-year conflict in Syria, largely focusing on Hezbollah fighters, Iranian-backed troops, and Syrian army sites.

Israel seldom discusses specific operations it conducts in Syria, but it has frequently stated that it will not permit its arch-enemy Iran, which backs Assad's government, to increase its presence there.

Iran, which supports Hamas, praised Hamas' attack on Israel on Saturday even though it stated it had nothing to do with it.

Skip the lines now with Delhi Metro's new QR code-based ticketing service utilising the Paytm Mobile App.

Via the Paytm Mobile App, Delhi Metro has introduced QR code-based ticketing, which is a convenient choice for commuters and improves the "convenience of ordering tickets" for travellers throughout its network.

In the Metro Bhavan, this project was launched by Dr. Vikas Kumar, the managing director of the Delhi Metro Rail Company (DMRC), in the presence of Mr. Abhay Sharma, the chief business officer of Paytm.

This new feature allows users to purchase a mobile QR ticket from the 'Metro' area of the Paytm app. On the day of travel, they can easily enter their station of entrance and destination. In order to continue their journey, passengers simply hold their smartphone in front of the QR code scanner at the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gates at both entry and exit stations. This facility was previously only accessible via the Airport Express Line.

"The introduction of this Paytm-based QR-based ticketing for all Delhi Metro corridors will allow for efficient and trouble-free mobility for thousands of metro commuters in the National Capital, "Vikas Kumar, a doctor, said. Our recent actions to support digital ticketing demonstrate our dedication to the "Digital India" agenda, which aims to deliver government services electronically with improved online infrastructure and inclusivity "Furthermore, he said.

Abhay Sharma stated, "With the use of this technology, Delhi Metro Rail customers would be able to bypass the lines to buy tickets.

CCTV cameras recorded the entire encounter, and the footage quickly went viral. About six of the culprits approached the gas station's pump and asked the workers to fill it with gas. One of the people, who was a motorbike pillion passenger, however, dispersed a gun. One of the employees was forced to take the attacker inside, where cash was stolen, after the attacker pointed a gun at him.

Information Systems Q2 Results: Guideline Cut Again Despite Increase in Sales and Profit

Even as the larger Indian IT services industry prepares for a slowdown, Infosys Ltd. has cut its revenue growth projection for fiscal 2024 for a second time.

According to a filing with the market on Thursday, the revenue of the second-largest IT services company in India increased 2.8% over the prior three months to Rs 38,994 crore in the quarter ended in September. This contrasts with the Rs 38,503-crore analyst consensus forecast that Bloomberg tracks.

Infosys Q2 Results: Important Highlights (QoQ)

  • Revenue increased by 2.8% to Rs. 38,994 crore from Rs. 37,933 crore (Bloomberg estimate: Rs 38,503 crore).
  • EBIT increased by 4.8% to Rs. 8,274 crore from Rs. 7,891 crore (Bloomberg estimate: Rs 8,088 crore).
  • EBIT margin was 21.20% as opposed to 20.80% (Bloomberg's expectation was 21%). Net profit increased by 4.5% to Rs. 6,215 crore from Rs. 5,945 crore (Bloomberg estimate: Rs 6,266.50 crore).
  • Declared interim dividend of Rs. 18 per share.
  • 14.6% versus 17.3% for the attrition rate.
In the July-September quarter, Infosys' sales increased 2.2% sequentially to $4,718 million. In constant currency terms, it increased by 2.3%.

The business has revised its constant currency revenue growth forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024 to 1-2.5%, down from 1%-3.5% at the end of the preceding quarter. In FY24, it intends to attain operating profitability of 20-22%.

According to Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh, the IT giant achieved significant transaction wins worth $7.7 billion, its best ever for a quarter, on the back of demand spread across verticals and countries.

In a macroeconomic situation that is uncertain, he said, "This is a testament to our ability to pivot and stay relevant to evolving client needs, by delivering the benefits of transformation as well as productivity and cost savings at scale." "Strong H1 performance with significant large deal wins lays the groundwork for the future." Topaz's growing usage of Generative AI is assisting us in delivering continuous value and expanding market share."

Infosys is the market leader in India's $250 billion IT services industry, which is expected to stall as businesses in the United States and elsewhere cut down on technology to deal with rising interest rates and inflation. Russia's military campaign in Ukraine has also caused economic anxiety for firms.

Infosys, like its larger counterpart Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., is attempting to fuel development through higher-margin digital services.

On Thursday, Infosys shares lost 1.95% to Rs 1,464.55 per share on the BSE, while the benchmark Sensex fell 0.10% to 66,408.39 points. The quarterly results were released after the market closed.

On the Hindu holy site of Gauri Kund in the Uttarakhand area of Pithoragarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid prayers today and saw the Adi Kailash. He might even catch a peek of Om Parvat from his chopper.

"The darshan and reverence at the revered Parvati Kund in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, had me speechless. The fact that I can see Adi Kailash from here makes me happy as well. Rahul Gandhi announces the decision of the Congress Working Committee to undertake caste censuses in four of the controlling states.

On October 9, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi declared that the party's Working Committee had made a solid commitment to conduct a caste census in states. He further underlined that the project is not motivated by caste or religion, but rather by a desire to help the economically underprivileged.

"We have decided to conduct a caste census, and we do not break promises." The step has nothing to do with caste or religion. It is being done for the poor," Rahul Gandhi stated at a press conference.

Rahul Gandhi noted that the Congress presently has four Chief Ministers, three of them are members of the OBC minority. In striking contrast, he continued, the BJP has 10 Chief Ministers, but only one of them represents the OBC community.

He also emphasised the need of Prime Minister Narendra Modi openly outlining steps to help the OBC group.

Rahul Gandhi stated that the Congress party is determined to put pressure on the BJP to conduct a caste-based census. If the BJP does not comply, Rahul Gandhi recommended that the BJP delegate authority to the Congress party on this subject.

"We have four CMs, three of whom are from the OBC community; the BJP has ten CMs, only one of whom is from the OBC community." Narendra Modi will have to explain to the people of his country what he has done for the community. "We will compel the BJP to conduct the caste census, and if they refuse, they should leave it to us,"

Rahul Gandhi stated, flanked by the Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Chattisgarh.

Rahul Gandhi claimed that the majority of the India coalition coalition partners will accept the notion of a caste census. He highlighted that the decision to conduct a caste census is not a political decision, but rather a one taken to promote social equality.

Rahul Gandhi has criticized the caste census, following an order from Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan for a caste survey similar to Bihar's. The Congress has also announced plans to conduct a caste survey in Chhattisgarh if re-elected.

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar revealed that OBCs and EBCs constitute 63% of the state's total population, with the Extremely Backward Classes (36%) being the largest social segment. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized the urgent need for a caste census during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, stating that people from all backward classes in the country have expressed a common request for one.

The results of the caste census are expected to be released later this year.

Today, the Election Commission will provide the polling schedule for five states.

The Election Commission of India is poised to release the long-awaited timetable for assembly elections in five states today. The vote schedule for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram will be announced in a news conference at 12 p.m. by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
The announcement will include the dates for various stages of the election process, such as nomination filing, polling days, and results declaration.

Last Friday, the Election Commission convened a meeting of observers and instructed them to verify that the threat of money power is effectively managed. General, police, and spending observers for the assembly elections in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana attended the conference.

In an official statement, the Commission stated that the Chief Election Commissioner, while speaking at a briefing meeting for observers to be deployed for the upcoming elections, directed the commission's observers to ensure a level playing field by working in a coordinated manner to ensure free, fair, and inducement-free elections.

Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly' tenure are due to finish on various days in January 2024, while the Mizoram Legislative Assembly's term will end on December 17 this year. While the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) governs Telangana, the BJP governs Madhya Pradesh. The Congress governs Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, while the Mizo National Front governs the northeastern state.

With the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 only a few months away, the approaching assembly elections will not only shape the political landscape at the state level, but will also have ramifications at the national level. Political parties have been aggressively preparing for forthcoming elections, which are likely to be high-stakes clashes in some areas.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be hosted in six countries across three continents.

FIFA and world football officials agreed Wednesday to accept a single offer that extended from Spain-Portugal to include Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay in a tournament that would take place on three continents and in six nations.

Among the most important concerns was how to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the World Cup in Uruguay, where the initial tournament final was staged in 1930.

Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay are vying to host the first matches of the 2030 World Cup, with a special goal of playing in Montevideo, Uruguay's capital and site of the 1930 Cup final.

"The centennial World Cup could not be far from South America, where everything began," said Alejandro Dominguez, head of South American soccer governing body CONMEBOL. "The 2030 World Cup will be played in three continents."

FIFA will allow all six of those countries' national teams to receive automatic entries, and Morocco will be the first North Africa nation to host the event.

The 2030 decision has sped up the process of finding a home for the 2034 World Cup, which is to be held in Asia or Oceania, likely in November and December. Saudi Arabia now becomes the primary candidate for the 2034 edition.

The 2030 FIFA agreement still must meet formal approval in 2024 during a meeting of the 211 member federations.

"In 2030," according to a statement issued by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, "we will have a unique global footprint, three continents —Africa, Europe and South America — six countries — Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay —welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup."

The current World Cup field of 32 teams will be reduced to 48 for the 2026 edition, which will be contested in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Football Supporters Europe, a fan organisation legally recognized by the Union of European Football Associations, voiced its discontent with the long distances necessary in 2030 and feels this will help Saudi Arabia's 2034 candidacy.

"FIFA continues its cycle of destruction against the greatest tournament on the planet," according to an FSE statement. "Horrendous for supporters, disregards the environment and rolls the red carpet out to a host for 2034 with an appalling human rights record."

The 104-match 2030 tournament will take place in June and July.

Shubman Gill has dengue fever and is questionable for India's match against Australia.

Shubman Gill's availability for India's ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener against Australia has been called into question.

According to PTI, Gill, who came in Chennai with Team India on Wednesday morning, has been diagnosed with 'Dengue' and is being treated.

The great player skipped India's training session on Thursday and will be tested today by the BCCI medical panel. Gill's availability for the October 8 match at Chepauk will be determined only after testing.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form for India in One-Day cricket this year, scoring 1,230 runs and seven hundreds.

After a dry spell following the hugely successful Indian Premier League 2023, Gill rediscovered his form in the Asia Cup 2023 and extended his fantasy run in three ODIs against Australia.

The Gujarat Titans player made 890 runs in the IPL 2023 and finished with 302 runs in India's victory in the Asia Cup.

If Gill is ruled out, India would bat first with either Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul, with the Mumbai Indians player having the edge over the Lucknow Super Giants skipper.

Rahul's recent record in the middle order has been spectacular, and he has been in fantastic form since returning from injury.

Both warm-ups against England and the Netherlands were canceled due to rain, thus Rohit Sharma and company will enter the tournament opener against Australia with no game experience.

"Where's the crowd?" chants the audience during the opening match of the Cricket World Cup.

It was advertised as the most anticipated cricket event of the year, to be staged in the sport's largest stadium in the world, in a country famed for its devotion to the game.

However, when the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 finally began on Thursday in India, just a few thousand seats were occupied in a stadium that had been renovated for the event in order to accommodate at least 120,000 fans.

As England and New Zealand faced off at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, which will be renamed after India's prime leader in 2021, cricket fans flocked to social media to voice their outrage at the rows of vacant saffron-colored seats staring back at them.

Danni Wyatt of England women's cricket asked "Where's the crowd?" in a post on X, the social networking site formerly known as Twitter.

Her Indian counterpart, Jemimah Rodrigues, stated that the audience is anticipating India's match against Pakistan on Saturday, October 14.

Delayed ticket release, last-minute changes anger fans

The tournament's scheduling and ticketing procedures have been criticized by fans.

The initial set of tickets went on sale on August 25, fewer than six weeks before the first match, making travel arrangements problematic.

Indian cricket fans who had been waiting for years to see the sport's greatest event in their own country told Al Jazeera that they had given up on their ambition of cheering for their side at home.

Vipul Yadav, a well-traveled sports enthusiast, called the ticketing process's administration "nonsensical."

"Nowhere else in the world do you have to fight so hard for a ticket." "All of this happened because the ticket release was done too late," he explained.

No Indian team, no Indian fans

Several hundred supporters from both competing countries could be visible in the stands during the first few innings of the England vs. New Zealand match.

When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah was spotted sat in the stands in the middle of England's innings, he took it upon himself to fill at least one more seat.

As the game progressed, local supporters began to fill some seats, although attendance was nowhere near half full.

During the match commentary, former India captain Ravi Shastri stated that India's absence in the first match may be a major reason in the seeming lack of interest from local spectators.

Indeed, this is the first time in 27 years that the tournament's opening match has not featured a host nation.

Ironically, the last time it happened was during an India-hosted World Cup, with the same teams squaring off at the same location, albeit then known as the Motera Stadium.

Before the game, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar stepped onto the field with the tournament winner's trophy and happily waved to the few fans.

Later, Tendulkar sought to patiently explain the local supporters' devotion to foreign cricketers, promising to "make it a special event for all players."

However, the backlash persisted online.

Manya, an Indian cricket enthusiast and writer, believes that creating the world's largest stadium is not the same as becoming the world's sports administration.

INDIA bloc cites Bihar data to reiterate demand for nationwide caste census

The Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) leaders renewed their demand for a nationwide caste census on October 2 in order to assure "social justice" to the underprivileged classes, citing the results of the Bihar caste survey.

Parties associated with the INDIA bloc have made the call for a caste census and OBC outreach their most prominent electoral strategy in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha election next year.

Rahul Gandhi, a former leader of the Congress, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's claim to be a champion of the Other Backward Classes was one of the false ideas that the bloc should dispel at the Upcoming summit in Mumbai.

On October 2, Mr. Gandhi reaffirmed that a community's rights should be proportionate to the size of its population in a society in response to the publication of the Bihar caste survey.

According to Mr. Gandhi's post on Facebook, the Bihar data showed that the combined percentage of OBCs, Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the State was 84%.

Only three of the Central Government's 90 secretaries, who manage 5% of India's budget, come from the OBC. Thus, it is crucial to understand India's caste statistics. This is our promise: the more people there are, the stronger their rights.

His job was in line with the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest-ranking decision-making body in the party, which advocated raising the reservation cap from the current 50%.

The CWC said in a resolution that the Narendra Modi administration's obstinate reluctance to carry out a caste census "revealed the BJP's lack of commitment to social and economic justice and its bias against the backward classes, Dalits, and tribal people."

"In this context, the CWC also asks for enhancing the top limit of reservations now in existence for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and OBCs," the resolution states.

Jairam Ramesh, the head of the Congress' media department, welcomed the Bihar government's initiative and said that while the party had previously conducted a similar survey in Karnataka, a caste census of the entire nation was now necessary.

According to Mr. Ramesh on X, "Such a Census has become vital for laying a firmer foundation for social empowerment programmes and for increasing social justice."

The Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav responded to the BJP's claim that the caste census might cause conflict by saying, "The caste census is not a struggle of 85-15; instead, it will open new roads of cooperation."

Those who favour an equal society would be in favour of it. He continued that the goal of revealing each community's numerical strength is to boost their self-esteem and foster a sense of civic responsibility.

Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPI (M), praised Bihar for leading the way and said on Twitter, "Day in and day out Modi castigates Opposition parties as anti-OBC while portraying himself as champion! He does not, however, agree to a case census. 2021 Census is postponed out of fear of addressing caste reality.

"This data would help the government in making policies accurately with a tangible understanding of deprivations," said D. Raja, general secretary of the Communist Party of India. Other States also require such activities to develop policies that are based on science and evidence.
