Andre Braugher, star of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," passes away at age 61.

At the age of 61, Andre Braugher, who starred in popular television series like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Homicide: Life On The Street", passed away. After a brief illness, Braugher passed away on Monday, his publicist confirmed to CNN.

The actor, who was born in Chicago, made his screen debut in the 1989 film "Glory," which starred Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman and earned an Oscar for its portrayal of an all-Black army regiment fighting in the Civil War.

Despite this part, he admitted to The Associated Press in 2019 that he had trouble getting hired in Hollywood, where there were very few opportunities for African-American actors.

The NBC series "Homicide: Life on the Street" gave the actor his big break as conceited Detective Frank Pembleton. During its 1992–1998 run, the programme earned Braugher an Emmy for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

For a younger audience, Braugher's outstanding performance as Brooklyn Nine-Nine's deadpan Captain Raymond Holt will stick in their memories the most. During his eight seasons on the popular comedy show, he made appearances and was nominated for four Emmys.

As an actor known for dark and dramatic roles, Braugher's role in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" marked a significant change.

Braugher told AP, "I just felt like it was an opportunity to do something really different from the rest of my career." "I enjoy it because it merely challenges my preconceived notions and forces me to think differently. Thus, I believe that as an actor, I've become much more flexible and receptive to the vast array of options available to me when it comes to playing a scene.

Terry Crews, Braugher's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-star, posted a memorial for the actor. "It's hard to believe you're gone already. It is a privilege to have had the opportunity to work, laugh, and watch your incredible talent with you for eight wonderful years. It hurts, Crews wrote.

The actor Joe Lo Truglio, who portrayed Charles Boyle in the programme, also posted a tribute to Braugher.

"I already miss him a great deal. Working with a man who understood the true meaning of the work was truly an honour. I'm grateful and feel blessed. Capt Holt, I miss you," he wrote.
