"The elder brother, Bhupen Da, was a strong advocate for India's integrity and unity. Even during those trying times, when the North East was neglected and left to burn in the flames of violence and separatism decades ago, Bhupen Da continued to advocate for India's unity. His vision of the North East was one of prosperity. He performed for the Northeast. For Assam, he performed songs. In order to fulfil his aspirations for the Northeast, we are working day and night today," PM Modi stated.
In addition, PM Modi unveiled the "Commemorative Coin and Stamp" in Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika's honour.
